Devotion - The Good Shepard Hi! Its me...Huggy-Lamb. I'm very excited today! Do you know why? Its because I have a really good friend. He's the best friend ever! My good friend is my shepard who takes care of me and watches over me. You see, He is such a good friend that he is always there - right by my side. He never leaves me. Just like yesterday when I got lost. It was really scary when I got lost. I didn't mean to...I just started running and playing, and pretty soon I didn't know where I was! I guess I just wasn't paying attention. But my shepard is such a good friend. When I called out to him, he came to find me. Since I tend to get lost a lot, and get myself in trouble, its a really good thing that he is my friend. No matter how many times I get into trouble, he is always there. When I go to him and ask him to help me, he always does. And sometimes, I don't learn from my mistakes. I do something bad, then I forget how bad it made me feel. Then I catch myself doing it again, even though I tried really hard not to. But you know what? If I go to my shepard first and ask him to help me do good, he does. He helps me do what is right.. And he helps me not do the bad things. He helps me stay out of trouble. I listen to him because he knows what is best for me...Even though I don't like to admit it, he is a lot smarter than me. I also get hurt a lot. I run and fall down, or jump too high and hurt my feet when I land. I play too hard and get all worn out. But, when I do get hurt, guess who is always there? -- My shepard! You guessed it!. He is always there to bandage me up so I will heal. He wipes my tears away. He holds my hand and stays with me until I feel better. Sometimes I get upset...I'm sad and I cry, or I get mad and yell. Sometimes I worry about what is going to happen next. Sometimes I just get scared of the dark. But, when I go to my shepard, he always comforts me. I can just go to him and tell him why I'm upset. He is always there to listen. And he always cares. He puts his big, strong arms around me and hugs me tight. He comforts me and makes me feel better. He lets me know he is near me, and that everything is going to be ok. And I always feel better because I know that he only says what is true, and he always does what he says he will do. I live in a really dangerous place too. There are all kinds of scary things that can happen. Sometimes there's wild animals that want to come and take me away. Sometimes the animals want to hurt me. But, if I run to my shepard, he is there to protect me. And if something bad does happen, he is always there to help me. I just hold on tight to his hand, and never let go. it always works out ok when my shepard is with me. _________________________________________________________________
Do you know why I'm telling you all of this? I'm telling you because I want you to know that you have a Good Shepard too - Just like me - and He will be your best friend if you ask him to. His name is Jesus. He is God's Son. He loves you so much that he will be with you always if you ask him to. He cares about you so much that he knows your name. He watches over you and protects you. He is always there. Every time you are upset and need someone to talk to. He listens to every word you say. He will lead you and guide you and help you every time you ask him to. If you ask him to help you do what is right, he will. What a great friend we have in Jesus! I hope you will get to know him...he will be your best friend ever.. just like my good shepard is my best friend. And, He will never leave you - that's a promise. Lesson I hoped you liked the lesson about The Good Shepard. Jesus is your shepard if you know him and follow him. We know this is true because Jesus tells us this in the Bible. John 10:14. I am the good shepard; I know my sheep, and my sheep know me. v 27. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. To learn how to follow Jesus, we can read our Bibles. But, if you can't read yet, your mom or dad or someone else can help you learn about him on this web site. Ask them to read the stories and devotions to you. And, going to church is another way to learn more about Jesus. |

PRAYER: Dear God, Thank you for being my Good Shepard. Thank you for protecting me and watching over me. Thank you for loving me always. Lead me and guide me every day. Help me to learn more about you, and how to follow you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
